Melissa Stagg is a Bronx native with a 15 year teaching career with the New York City Department of Education. She teaches Spanish as a World Language to her students and invites them to take up space in the world, raise their voice for justice and read as much as possible in Spanish! In 2022, she began serving her school as the Peer Collaborative Teacher, a teacher leadership role designed to build capacity within her school community in service of student learning and achievement.
Melissa attended Grinnell College where she obtained her Bachelors of Arts, with a concentration in Spanish literature and a focus in pre-medicine coursework. She holds a Masters of Arts from Lehman College in Spanish and Secondary Education, along with an MBA from Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business. Melissa recently published her first children’s book, which she co-authored with her college friend; the book is entitled, “You were made to Fly: The Adventures of Monarch”.
In her ever-elusive spare time, she enjoys baking Springerle and other molded cookies, writing and going on adventures with her beloved child. She continues to teach and reside in The Bronx with her spouse and child.
