I am a sixth year 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher working in a special education setting. While I love the stories and skills that history classes teach us, I have found that my Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) social skill elective to be one of the most helpful classes I have ever taught. In my personal life DnD has brought me closer to long established friends as well as introduced me to a few new ones. I appreciate this gift, and one day had the thought of what if I could pass this gift on to my students? After doing some research on the benefits DnD can have on social-emotional learning, I requested to make the class an elective and had it approved. Now I get to spend 1 hour each day playing my favorite game of all time, all the while passing on skills that I know will benefit students in the future.
