Dr. Shantha Smith was born and raised in Washington, D.C. She attended Virginia State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Special Education. She went on to receive a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, with a minor in Reading, from Trinity College. In 2015, Dr. Smith earned her PhD in Special Education/Special Education Leadership from George Mason University.
Dr. Smith was recently named CEO of Crescendo Education Group, assuming the role from Joe Feldman, author of Grading for Equity, and continuing the organization’s commitment to accurate and fair grading practices.
Her teaching, coaching, and leadership experience spans PK–12, and she is deeply committed to supporting educators as they reimagine grading and assessment in service of student learning. Outside of her professional work, Dr. Smith enjoys traveling, staying active on her Peloton, and deepening her yoga practice.
