When I graduated from high school, I knew I loved working with younger kids, but I swore I would never be a teacher. School wasn't a great experience for me and the idea of working in schools seemed awful. However, here I am two decades later in my 18th year in education. In college, I realized that I could make school a better experience for my students than it was for me, which led me to get my bachelor's and master's in education. Many years later, discovering the Modern Classroom Project was a great step in meeting that goal. The model allows me to meet the needs of all my students while still letting me embrace the other elements of my teaching that feel so important, like inquiry-based learning and a classroom with strong collaboration and discourse. This year I am in my first year as an instructional coach, a role I chose because I believe it will allow me to impact even more students.
