I received my Oregon multiple subject teaching license at the end of 2008. However, I am originally from California, so I moved back after graduation to start my career. Unfortunately, at that time many teachers were being pink slipped. This allowed me to take on a variety of other roles such as a substitute teacher at all grade levels, tutoring, teaching summer school, and eventually finding a temporary home as the Director of Education at a private tutoring company.
Eventually, I was able to get into the classroom teaching 5th grade on a temporary contract for one year. After which I was hired permanently in a district teaching 4th grade, which I have now been doing for 10 years. I have continued my professional development through a variety of trainings, conferences, further education, and self-directed learning. I have now added my STEM Masters, MIAA (single subject math credential through Algebra 1), and of course becoming a Distinguished Modern Classroom teacher.
During my free time I enjoy hiking, playing soccer, traveling, gardening, and being outdoors in general. I have been married for 10 years with two children, 5 and 7.
